One of the biggest compliments that can be given to a dancer is that they are light on their feet. This means they are capable of moving around the stage with an effortless grace and can twist and turn quickly. These are great skills for any dancer to have available to them but confident movement on the dance floor can be aided by wearing comfortable and reliable dancewear shoes. There will be some dancers who say that fashion doesn’t matter when it comes to dancewear shoes and in some regards, they have a point. After all, the point of wearing specific shoes whilst rehearsing or performing is to provide additional support or comfort during the activity that would not be present if the performer was wearing other shoes. This means there has to be a consideration made to the support elements and this can be seen in the pointe box at the end of ballet shoes or in the reinforced arches and heels of dance sneakers. All of these elements add an extra level of sup0port which elevates the dance related shoes above standard footwear options.
However, there does have to a fashion element to dancewear shoes and this relates to the nature of performance that is integral to dancing. If the dancer is taking part in a competition, presentation is likely to be one of the factors that they are being judged on and this means they have to look presentable and have a consistent image. Aside from being harder to perform, a ballet dancer wearing a pair of trainers would be judged poorly in comparison to other dancers. This doesn’t mean that fashion should be the sole criteria in picking dance shoes but it needs to be considered.
It can be worthwhile to consider how often you will be wearing the dancewear shoes and what you really need them for. If you are going to be performing ballet dancing, then a pair of ballet pumps or pointe shoes would be the best option. Alternatively, if modern or urban dancing is what you enjoy, sneakers or modern styled dance shoes would be the better decision. The fashion element comes into play but more importantly, the correct style of footwear will have a massive difference on how you perform and get around the stage or arena.
Choosing the right style of dancewear shoes for youngsters is even more important when you consider the fact that children’s bones are still forming. This ties in with the fact that children’s feet can experience growth spurts making a pair of shoes unwearable in a short space of time. All of this means parents will need to consider what style of dancewear shoes offers the best value for money for their youngster. With dancing shoes available in a wide variety of styles and prices, there should be a pair of shoes for every dancer.
