Ballet Shoes: What They Are And Where You Can Buy Them

Like many physical pursuits it is of great benefit to start out when one is young and mouldable. The reason being is that during our younger years we find it easier to absorb new information and as such being taught to cycle, swim or play a sport is going to be a lot quicker and easier at a young age.

That is not to say that as we get older we cannot still learn, but there are other commitments in our lives that have to take precedence, such as work and family. However, with this in mind, think about the huge variety of choices we had when we were young. What sport would we take up, would we want to learn to play an instrument or even take up a craft? These decisions on the whole were left to a certain extent to our teachers and parents, the reason being is that they would be able to recognise a talent and therefore channel the future development of that individual by assigning them a sport or craft.

As we get older we learn a great many things about ourselves and should we choose to take up a hobby later in life, we will be able to make a more considered decision, based upon time and other factors.

Going back to those early years, dance is a fantastic pursuit for a young boy or girl to get into. Like many other physical activities that require training, conditioning and a high level of attainable skill, dance is better off learnt young and then honed over time. The physical constraints of dance need to be learnt by the mind and body so that they can grow as one.

One such form of dance that has endured for many centuries is that of Ballet. This is arguably the most beautiful and elegant form of dance and has been used extensively to bring to life some wonderful stories. Pursuing this form of dance will require a great deal of discipline and application, as well as a number of pieces of clothing and footwear. This brings us onto the ballet shoes; this footwear is designed to be worn during all ballet classes and for performances.

Ballet shoes are not to be mistaken with Pointe shoes, as these are specialist shoes that require up to 5 years of training before a dancer is ready to stand and dance en Pointe. In stead ballet shoes are lightweight slip-on shoes that often tie up around the ankle with a length of material, similar to a lace but wider allowing for the top of the foot to remain free for movement.

The ballet shoes that you will find in the stores and online will range in price, but for the beginner, there are plenty of bargains to be had, just have a look on the high street and also in the specialist dancewear stores. If you decide to look online then make sure you know the size and fit of your child’s ballet shoes before committing to the purchase.
