Organising the Warehouse ready for Back to School

The quantity of orders has quietened down a little for the summer break but we at Dance Direct are still considerably busier compared to this time last year. The orders themselves are of a much higher content and with the Back to School special offers we have going on at the moment, we can see that children’s ballet tights, children’s ballet leotards and ballet shoes are really driving these substantial bulk orders. Not wanting to leave things to a last minute rush, teachers and parents alike are getting their orders in early for their children and pupils going back to school. To take advantage of cheap children’s leotards on offer at only £5.55, customers need to get their orders in quickly because these special offers are only here until the 15th August 2010 so time is running out. With all these large orders coming through the warehouse team could really benefit from each having eight arm and legs at the moment to help with these large orders; we could always bring in a team of octopi because German octopus Paul did a really good job of ‘helping out’ with his predictions during this years World Cup.

We can see that a lot of the dancewear orders being sent out are for big up and coming performances and shows with lots of white tutus (ref TT1) and tap shoes or pink leotards and ballet pumps or lilac tutus and turquoise ankle warmers (ref PAW) with some of the wacky colour combinations that we send out it’s a real shame that we don’t get to see many pictures of the dancers wearing these outfits, this is why we introduced the competition on Facebook asking people to upload photos of themselves doing what they do best.

During this slightly quieter period we have been tidying up the warehouse, moving dancewear around and making room for all of our new products coming soon. It is quite a big task to move around 100,000 different products including numerous colours and sizes but it’s all worth it in the end to ensure accuracy, ease and efficiency of picking for the warehouse team, it’s just another way we at Dance Direct are constantly working to deliver the best possible service to our customers and this is something constantly at the forefront of our minds.

We have also carried out additional stock takes to ensure that our inventory of dancewear is 100% accurate; this will help avoid any disappointment for customers when ordering goods, and due to the new stock control system we put in place a short while ago, we are able to see what products need re-ordering in advance.
