Dance Consortium’s Spring Tours

Dance Consortium has recently announced two Spring 2022 UK tours opening at Sadler’s Wells: Acosta Danza, with a six-venue tour from 9 February to 5 March, and NDT 2, with a nine-venue tour from 16 February to 8 May.

Dance Consortium is a group of 18 large-scale UK venues with a shared passion for engaging people with the best contemporary dance from across the world. Since its formation in 2000, Dance Consortium has presented over 46 tours by 26 different companies to over 700,000 people. It exists to tour the very best international dance companies to audiences across the UK.

Acosta Danza, the company set up by international ballet star Carlos Acosta, returns with a new programme, 100% Cuban, following the cancellation of its tour in spring 2020.

It was created by Carlos Acosta in 2015 to harness and develop the young creative dance talent emerging from Cuba. The ethos of the company is to produce dancers who combine Cuba’s rich musical and dance influences with classical and contemporary genres, and create exciting and stimulating repertoire that pushes conventional boundaries. Acosta Danza has worked with some of the world’s leading choreographers as well as encouraging the emergence and development of new choreography from its own members.

NDT 2, the second company of Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT), is back in the UK for the first time since 2016 with a triple bill by German, Dutch and Swedish choreographers.

It was set up in 1978 by Nederlands Dans Theater under the inspiring leadership of Jiří Kylián, initially as a talent development programme for the main company. Since then, NDT 2 has developed into an independent company with its own distinctive repertoire and extensive national and international touring schedule. Over a three-year period, 16 classically-trained dancers, aged 18 to 23, learn and perform a varied repertoire with the company’s collaboration with many upcoming choreographers giving the young dancers the opportunity to assimilate different dance languages, techniques and working methods.
